Director's note: For more than thirty years "The Duchess of Malfi" by John Webster was not represented in our country, with productions and major companies. This long absence from the scene combined with the power of story full of suspense, betrayal, intrigue, and crime and depth of analysis of human events, it led us to work in this great work of the Elizabethan theater. Webster is the text of the exotic dish of the fears of contemporary society's moral attitude in the face of women, and the nature of the abuse and murder. Today, we give a reinterpretation of the classic work by recognizing the metaphor of our obsessions, the same violence that reigns in our society, especially against women, and read a universal value that transcends the interest localistic for the news story. These important characteristics may justify the search for modernity even in theatrical style, mixing tradition and innovation in the adaptation and dramaturgy in the choice of languages, in line with the trends of contemporary theatrical culture.
